Job Description

This senior level employee is primarily responsible for providing expert technical advice on IT infrastructure for assigned systems, setting the technical direction for infrastructure solutions, and for serving as a technical expert for project teams while mentoring and advising others in all system development lifecycle phases. The Mobility Center of Excellence is seeking an innovative and highly technical DevOps Engineer to manage the touch points of mobile application development and certification processes. This role supports our development and delivery teams by maintaining, developing, integrating, and enhancing the build-related tools and infrastructure relied upon daily by the Mobility Center of Excellence and its partners.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in automation, CI/CD pipelines, mobile build processes, and cloud services, working closely with internal customers and development teams to ensure fast, reliable, and secure mobile app delivery.                                                                    

Essential Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain configuration code, including writing and maintaining automated tests, and managing deployments.
  • Gather and analyze system metrics to identify and address problematic machines.
  • Retire and replace machines after their useful life has ended.
  • Monitor and improve DevOps tools and processes, automate routine tasks, and implement self-healing mechanisms to improve reliability.
  • Keep CI toolchain updated and resolve build or deployment issues as they arise.
  • Evaluate and potentially deploy CI services on cloud platforms such as Azure or Bluemix.
  • Collaborate with development teams to integrate new features, components, and assets into the build and release process.
  • Create hooks from repository through continuous integration to Enterprise AppStore.
  • Manage and enhance application code signing processes for iOS and Android.
  • Maintain build and configuration documentation.
  • Enforce coding design and style standards within the build process.
  • Support Git repository build tagging, branching, and merging.
  • Create technical documentation for process flows and configurations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve build, installation, and configuration issues for Android and iOS.
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate new technologies into existing systems where appropriate.

  • As part of the IT Engineering job family, this position is responsible for leveraging DEVOPS, and both Waterfall and Agile practices, to design, develop, and deliver resilient, secure, multi-channel, high-volume, high-transaction, on/offpremise, cloud-based solutions.
  • Provides consultation and expert technical advice on IT infrastructure planning, engineering, and architecture for assigned systems by assessing the implications of IT strategies on infrastructure capabilities.
  • Provides some recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for systems designs.
  • Leverages partnerships with IT teams and key business partners to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Serves as a functional expert and collaborates with architects and software engineers to ensure functional specifications are converted into flexible, scalable, and maintainable system designs.
  • Translates business requirements, and functional and non-functional requirements, into technical specifications that support integrated and sustainable designs for complex or high impact infrastructure systems by partnering with Business Analysts to understand business needs and functional specifications.
  • Ensures system designs adhere to company architecture standards.
  • Builds partnerships with counterparts in various IT Teams (e.g., database, operations, technical support) throughout system development and implementation.
  • Serves as a technical expert for project teams throughout the implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems by defining and overseeing the documentation of detailed standards (e.g., guidelines, processes, procedures) for the introduction and maintenance of services.
  • Mentors other technical resources throughout infrastructure systems development.
  • Reviews and validates technical specifications and documentation for complex or multi-dimensional solutions.
  • Leads the development and modification of solutions by identifying technical solutions to business problems.
  • Collaborates with business leaders, Solutions, and lead enterprise architects to review business drivers, and establish a foundation for enterprise systems planning.
  • Reviews benchmarking results, and provides information to support current and future infrastructure needs and projects to IT leadership. Provides preliminary conclusions.
  • Benchmarks and evaluates IT trends and technologies to identify opportunities and considerations that impact ROI.
  • Makes recommendations on resources required to maintain service levels and meet new demands.
  • Guides and drives physical architecture design for new initiatives.           

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field and Minimum eight (8) years experience in an IT operations environment with technical experience in distributed technologies, systems development, and/or networking.
  • Minimum two (2) years in a technical lead role with or without direct reports.
  • Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.                                                                   

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years experience working with automation tools and configuration management software (e.g., Chef).
  • One (1) years experience working with Ruby.
  • Three (3) years experience administering and supporting macOS and Red Hat Linux environments.
  • Three (3) years experience working with code and image repositories (e.g., Git, GitHub).
  • Three (3) years experience using automated testing tools (e.g., Chef Kitchen, InSpec, XCUITest, Perfecto).
  • Six (6) years scripting experience using UNIX/Linux scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and three (3) years scripting experience using PowerShell.
  • Three (3) years experience applying networking fundamentals, including DNS, TCP/IP, NAT, PAT, routing, load balancing, and packet inspection tools (e.g., Wireshark).
  • Three (3) years experience using monitoring tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk).
  • Three (3) years experience working with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • Two (2) years experience using Agile development tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Three (3) years experience administering and configuring Apache and NGINX web servers.
  • Three (3) years experience working with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Azure).
  • Three (3) years experience deploying changes to production environments.
  • Two (2) years experience working in a role requiring interaction with senior leadership (e.g., Director level and above).
  • Four (4) years experience leading the development of technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently to deliver on schedule without sacrificing quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and quickly troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, QEMU).
  • Experience with mobile app dependency management tools (CocoaPods, Swift Package Manager, Maven).
  • Experience with native mobile app distribution technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise mobile app signing and provisioning processes.
  • Experience with Gradle and mobile build tools for iOS and Android.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA/PCI compliance requirements.
