Job Description
The Lead System Administrator for Windows Server & Data Services will be responsible for managing file and data services across the enterprise, ensuring proper access, permissions, and migrations. This role will focus on Windows Server administration, SharePoint, OneDrive, Active Directory permissions, and data management. The engineer will serve as an escalation point for missing data, broken permissions, and business continuity fixes, ensuring enterprise-wide support for file storage and access. Additionally, the role will support modern workflows within Microsoft 365, including Copilot, data protection rules, and oversharing remediation.
Essential Responsibilities
- Windows Server Administration & File Services Management:
- Manage Windows Server environments with a focus on file services, DFS, and Network Attached Storage (NAS).
- Support Active Directory file and folder permission structures, including user/group access management.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for shared folder creation, migration, and data organization best practices.
- OneDrive & SharePoint Administration:
- Oversee enterprise-wide OneDrive & SharePoint administration, ensuring proper access and security controls.
- Perform data migrations from personal drives and shared drives to OneDrive and SharePoint.
- Resolve escalations related to file access, missing data, and permission conflicts.
- Implement and support business continuity fixes, such as reassigning user data after offboarding.
- Data Services & Security Compliance:
- Apply data protection rules and oversharing remediation to ensure compliance with security policies.
- Support Microsoft Copilot and automation workflows for modern data management.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to file and data access across the enterprise.
- Incident Management & Process Improvement:
- Act as an escalation point for data services issues within the enterprise.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance file storage and access operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge base articles.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Social Science, Education, Business, Health Care or related field and Minimum six (6) years working in IT or operations. Additional three (3) years equivalent work experience for a total of nine (9) may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- At least four (4) years of experience in Windows Server file administration, DFS, and Network Attached Storage (NAS).
- At least four (4) years of experience managing Active Directory permissions and security group policies.
- At least four (4) years of proficiency in OneDrive and SharePoint administration, including data migrations.
- At least four (4) years of problem-solving experience and ability to resolve complex file access issues.
- Excellent communication and ability to document technical processes
Additional Requirements
- Communication skills: Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in the English language. Needs to be able to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical users and colleagues in a clear and concise manner.
- Technical expertise: Must demonstrate strong technical skills, including experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, TCP/IP, Windows Server file administration, DFS, and Network Attached Storage (NAS) and other related technologies. Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and other automation tools used to manage Microsoft 365 is required.
- Problem-solving skills: Must possess strong problem-solving skills at the tier 3 to 4 support levels and be able to troubleshoot and solve complex issues related to Microsoft 365 and should also be able to work independently and as part of a team to resolve issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three (3) years experience working in a large matrixed organization.
- Four (4) years experience writing documentation or standard operating procedures related to system administration.
- Healthcare industry knowledge: Prefer knowledge of healthcare industry regulations and standards, such as HIPAA, but is not required.
- Experience with Microsoft Copilot, automation, and AI-driven workflows.
- Knowledge of oversharing remediation strategies and data governance.
- Background in enterprise IT operations and data services management.
